Get ready to return to the dystopian world of Panem, as Lionsgate has announced the development of a new Hunger Games prequel film, Sunrise on the Reaping. Set 24 years before the events of the original trilogy, the film will follow the morning of the 50th Hunger Games and the story of Haymitch Abernathy.
Adapted from Suzanne Collins' novel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Sunrise on the Reaping will explore Haymitch's journey as a young man and the events that shaped him into the enigmatic mentor he became to Katniss Everdeen.
The release date of the film is set for 2026, coinciding with the novel's release date in March 2025. Casting and other production details are yet to be announced.
