In this rapid-fire sequel to the cult favorite, the Federation's best Mobile Infantry unit, the Roughnecks, are sent on a mission to a remote planet to investigate a distress signal. When they arrive, they find a group of colonists under attack by a horde of giant, mutated insects. The Roughnecks must fight their way through the hordes of bugs to reach the colonists and rescue them.
The film stars Richard Burgi as Colonel John Rico, Billy Brown as Sergeant Carl Jenkins, Kelly Carlson as Lieutenant Carmen Ibanez, and Ed Lauter as General Carl Jenkins. The film was directed by Phil Tippett and written by Steven Barnes.
Hero of the Federation was released in the United States on October 1, 2004. The film received mixed reviews from critics, but was a commercial success, grossing over $100 million worldwide.
